Hey – it’s your host, Lesley Salman of Salman Home Realty, with my co-host, Marti Watson of Potomac Title Group Services, here with your weekly feature spotlighting local hot spots in and around Gainesville, VA!

Today we’re at Byblos Restaurant in the Piedmont Center Plaza in Gainesville, Virginia. Restaurant owner, Walid Boustany, sat down with us to give us an inside look at this local favorite. The owners of Byblos have been in Gainesville for 7 years, and after opening a successful restaurant prior to Byblos, decided to try their hand at this unique Lebanese cuisine.

The name? Byblos was the ancient Phoenician port city of Gebal (called Byblos by the Greeks) on the coast of the Mediterranean sea in what is, today, Lebanon. Byblos is among the cities listed as candidates for the distinction of ‘oldest city in the world.’

Our tour of Byblos started with a stunning Lebanese wine – a popular wine in Lebanon. As a French colony, Lebanon found a huge appreciation for wines.

Looking for vegetarian options? Byblos is your bet with over 20 vegetarian dish options. Our lunch began with delectable vegetarian dishes. Their hummus is to die for and is a favorite item on the Byblos menu. Accompanied with their freshly bakes pita bread – YUM – you, like me, will suddenly find your love for this dip.

Everything at Byblos is homemade – from scratch, so when they say “authentic” they mean it! Falafels aka “Lebanese hush puppies”? De-li-cious.

More of a meat eater? Byblos won’t leave you high and dry. We tried their meat pies with pine nuts and onions. Kabobs with chicken and beef, side of fries and mashed potatoes and grilled veggies with garlic sauce. Even better? Their famous lamb shank. Definitely my favorite.
