Hey and happy Thursday! It’s time for our weekly featured video, and for those of you new here, Going Gainesville is an “about town” website (http://bit.ly/GoingGainesville) and Facebook page (http://bit.ly/goinggainesvillefb) dedicated to helping you discover what’s up in our are. From local businesses to local eats – there’s a little something for everyone here.

Who am I? I’m your host, Lesley Salman. When I’m not running around trying amazing food (or getting my oil changed – more on that in a minute), I’m assisting homeowners in buying and selling through my agency, Salman Home Realty (http://bit.ly/salmanhomerealty).

I’m joined by my co-host, Bruce Potter, with the amazing local news source you’ve probably all heard of, InsideNova.com and Piedmont Lifestyle Magazine. We’re visiting a winner of the 2019 Best of Gainesville winner, Piedmont Tire and Auto!

We sat down with John Filippone, Operations Manager whose name you may recognize from the ever-growing Facebook group, Western Prince William Chatter (http://bit.ly/PWCChatter), to get the wrench turning on what makes Piedmont Tire and Auto the automotive staple it’s become.

Piedmont’s history goes back about as far as Haymarket’s with the original location opening in 1984. With the ever-changing landscape, the original service station was taken down, and the original Piedmont Tire and Auto was opened on the corner of 29 and Linton Hall in 2002. Later, they expanded to their current Haymarket location in 2011.

We mentioned that this auto-repair shop had received the “Best Of” for 2019 – but that’s an understatement. This is their NINETH “Best Of” award in a row. How do they do it? Simple. Customer service. Piedmont sees each client as an extended family member and aims to treat them as such – and it clearly shows.

So how does a guy who runs an award-winning auto repair shop also run one of the largest local community pages in our area? Well, of course, I asked.

The “Chatter Page” grew from a few customers who initially started the page and has ballooned into 22,000 members. The Piedmont clients, Katies and Wayne, needed some help managing this growing online community and they knew John was the perfect fit – a manager at heart dedicated to maintaining order and making sure things are run efficiently. You could say John is the page’s bouncer – he definitely has the look for it.

John’s business goals align with what the Western Prince William Chatter page is all about – helping local people and the community. It’s enabled Piedmont Tire to assist in giveaways on the page like supplying military families with free tires, childhood cancer awareness, and local school initiatives. Piedmont foot the bill for a teacher happy hour to help them through a tough time. If there’s a way Piemont Tire can help, they do – which is why they’re so loved in our community.

Piedmont focuses on customer service because they have a lot of opportunities to provide it working on nearly 200 cars each and every day. “Going out of the way” has become the way of Piedmont’s customer service philosophy.
